Which should I do?
When it comes time to decide whether your heating and air conditioning system should be repaired or replaced, several considerations should be made. Among these consideration are the following.
Equipment age
Most HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) equipment is designed to last around 10 years. In reality, the average lifespan for an A/C Condenser is about 13.4 years. Kind of like computers, HVAC technology changes quickly. The newer HVAC systems are exponentially more efficient, quieter, more reliable and environmentally friendly.
Generally speaking, it’s usually best to replace the entire system if it is ten years or older. The below graphs, based on industry standards and our years of experience will give you an idea of where you lie in relation to the age and costs to maintain your current system.

Also like a computer, all the parts of the system are designed to work together. Take a moment to imagine a brand new computer that relied on a 20 year old floppy disk drive for its’ data storage. Obviously this brand new computer will not achieve its’ designed performance when coupled with this older component.
Well, HVAC systems are very much like this analogy. The advertised energy efficiency ratings on new HVAC equipment are assuming that all components are working together. For example if the system’s ducts are leaking, or the return air grills are undersized, you will get nowhere near the advertised performance values.

How long do you plan on living in the home?
Although a new HVAC system will add value to your home and be quite attractive to potential buyers when it comes time to sell, you may not want to install the top of the line system. In these cases, we offer more affordable, quality alternatives.
Budget
With the current economic environment, we realize that a full system replacement may not be possible. In these cases, we will offer the most affordable solution until a system replacement is more practical.
Lower Energy Costs?
Did you know that older, less efficient heating or cooling systems could be costing you money every month? According to the Environmental Protection Agency and other experts: “As much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. So making smart decisions about your home’s heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can have a big effect on your utility bills — and your comfort.”
Depending on how old your system is, a new high-efficiency system could save you up to 59% on your current utility costs.
